All you ever wanted to know about Tony Hancock and so much more....
HANCOCK RETURNS TO BBC7
BBC7 have announced that "Hancock's Half Hour" will return to air next Wednesday, 15th October (replacing "Beyond Our Ken" which finished its run this week).
The run of "Hancock's Half Hour" will commence with the very first episode "The First Night Party" next Wednesday at 8.0am, 12 noon and 7.0pm.
"Hancock's Half Hour" has been broadcast on BBC7 each Tuesday from the very first week that the station began broadcasting in December 2002, but ended its continuous run in May this year, when the BBC decided to "rest" the series for a few months. BBC7 did however bring back the series in June for a week of episodes to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Tony Hancock's death. Each episode had a specially-recorded introduction by Ray Galton and Alan Simpson.
SCRIPT LIBRARY NOW OPEN
We are pleased to announce that the THAS Script Library is now open. Thanks to the hard work of THAS members who have spent many hours scanning the scripts, the original BBC radio and television scripts of 'Hancock's Half Hour' have been compiled on to a single DVD in .pdf format
We are very greatful to Ray Galton and Alan Simpson for their permission to make these scripts available to THAS members. Copyright remains in the ownership of Alan Simpson and Ray Galton. These Scripts are for viewing purposes only and may not be copied, reproduced or distributed without their permission.
If you are a member of THAS and would like a copy of the script DVD, please send a cheque payable to 'THAS' for £5.00 to our archivist Keith Mason. Please make sure to include your membership number.
HANCOCK'S FINEST HOUR The 25 year old play 'Hancock's Finest Stand written by actor Colin Bennett, is to make a
comeback. The play which is set around Hancock's dressing room whilst he is waiting to be
interviewed by John Freeman on the TV programme 'Face to Face, is to be adapted for modern audiences by not-for-profit Birmingham production company,
Maverick Theatre.
Paul Henry aka Benny from 'Crossroads' is to play Tony in the production that will kick off next year and will visit most major cities and towns of the UK in a 16 week long tour.
HUGH LLOYD 1923-2008 It is with great sadness that we report the death of our good friend, the comedian and Actor Hugh Lloyd. Hugh is perhaps best known for performing alongside Terry Scott in their own sixties sitcom 'Hugh And I' and also for appearing in 25 Hancock's Half Hour television episodes as Tony's sidekick.
Hugh passed away yesturday (14th July) at his home in Worthing, West Sussex at the age of 85. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. All our thoughts here at THAS go to his wife Shän.
